Mental Health First Aid - This training gives participants the skills to recognize when someone is facing mental health or substance use challenges - and the confidence to be their first source of support. Learn to recognize signs and symptoms, connect people with professional help, address stigma, and encourage self-care.
Adult Mental Health First Aid - In this full-day training, you'll learn how to help people ages 18 and older. Topics include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and substance use.
Youth Mental Health First Aid - In this full-day training, you'll learn how to help people ages 12-18. Topics include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, bullying, social media, substance use, and ADHD.
QPR - This 1.5 hour gatekeeper course introduces three steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide: Question. Persuade. Refer.
Lock and Talk: Recognize Risk, Reduce Harm, Save Lives - This community-based training was developed to increase awareness of suicide warning signs and risk factors, build confidence in having direct and supportive conversations about suicide, and promote lethal means safety through safe storage of firearms and medications. The training also introduces practical intervention frameworks, including T.A.L.K and L.O.C.K, to help participants recognize risk, respond supportively, and connect individuals to help and resources.
ASIST - This 2-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training gives you the confidence, knowledge and practical tools to intervene when it matters most. You don’t need to be a counselor or mental health professional – just someone who’s willing to care, to listen and to take action.
Youth Gaming and Gambling Curriculum - This curriculum is designed to equip high school and college age students with critical knowledge on a variety of topics related to problem gaming and gambling, including warning signs, the impact to well-being, financial and media literacy, and how to make positive changes.
ACEs Interface - This training serves to raise awarenss and connect people to helpful resources to reduce adverse childhood experiences and ultimately improve the overall health and wellbeing of our community. Participants will learn how: toxic stress in childhood can impact brain development, early childhood trauma can have a lifelong impact on social, behavioral, and physical health, and communities can begin taking steps towards self-healing and building resilience.
C.H.A.T.S - Build more resilient communities by providing opportunities to foster genuine connection by deepening our appreciation and understanding of others and providing relational tools to take back to our communities.
Northwestern CSB partners with DBHDS and the Virginia Department of Health to provide local REVIVE trainings. Participants learn about addiction, signs of an opioid overdose, and how to help. All participants who complete the training also receive a kit and 2 free doses of naloxone.
For parents/caregivers and youth ages 10-14, this program helps families learn to manage emotions, set goals, avoid peer pressure, make better decisions, and create better relationships. Learn how to show love while setting limits, how to listen to your child, and how to help family members show appreciation to each other. This program is currently being offered twice a year and each session starts with a family dinner.
An interactive program for middle school students. Sessions focus on the 8 Dimensions of Wellness. Northwestern Prevention and Wellness works with community partners to provide these activities.
“Activate Your Wellness” promotes wellbeing through awareness messages and calls to action. The campaign is all about representing positivity, growth, and optimism. We want Virginians to know that it’s okay if their wellness is not where they want it to be because even a small step can help create positive change!
Participants learn statistics on Mental Health, basic signs that someone may be struggling, where to go for help, and strategies to support mental wellness.
