Northwestern CSB partners with Counter Tools, an evidence-based model to build healthy communities through environmental prevention strategies such as merchant education and trainings, compliance monitoring, health data analysis, and media advocacy support.
Over 280 vendors in our service area are visited every two years with a goal of educating individuals who sell tobacco about the relevant laws, regulations, and best practices to prevent sales to minors and ensure responsible sales.
As part of our commitment to preventing youth tobacco and nicotine use, Northwestern incorporates tobacco education into the Strengthening Families (10–14) program. Youth are encouraged to explore the influences and pressures that can shape their choices while gaining practical skills for making healthy decisions and responding to situations, including those involving tobacco and nicotine. Engaging families in these conversations helps create supportive environments where youth can feel confident choosing a tobacco-free lifestyle.
Bright Views
We support early prevention through the Bright Views pre-K social-emotional programming, helping young children build the skills they need to recognize emotions, develop positive relationships, and make healthy choices. By introducing these skills at an early age, it helps lay the foundation for confidence, resilience, and healthy coping strategies that can support children as they grow and face new challenges.
